Melones Beach South

Melones Beach is the beginning of the Culebra Marine Underwater Park and is very important for us. This beach is only a 4-5 minute walk from Harbour View Villas, just down the hill.It is also the most beautiful natural Salt water "pool".

It is really a small peninsula with a beach on either side. The one facing to the South is a cove of Bay of Sardines, implying by its name a place where Sardines and their smaller cousins the Minnows are found in abundance. This is good to know because if fishing is your thing then you know where to go and get some good fresh bait. (See our Website on Fishing) or if you are a lover of good food, the cast of a net will bring priceless fresh delights for your morning eggs with minnows etc.

As I said before, this beach is of great importance to us, so I will expand beyond it to bring to light all the pros and cons of the area. The tip of the peninsula is a great site for fishing from where you can use a surf-casting rig or as the locals do, use a hand held spool. Some of the fish you can catch range from Barracuda, Yellowtail Snapper & Nassau Grouper.

On the road to Melones you will pass the entrance to Juanita Bananas a well known restaurant.
